The Alaska Veterans Memorial Canoe
I never dreamed my art would take me to this place, but I had a sweet lady that wanted a Memorial Canoe that would be dedicated to the memory of her father who had died a couple of years earlier. He served in the Air Force and was Stationed in Alaska for a time. He was a mechanic that worked on F 15 fighter jets. He love the mountains, and all kinds of wildlife. He loved Missouri rivers and he loved to fish and hunt. I feel very honored to do memorials for special loved ones. I must say I always shed a few tears as I craft these pieces. I put all the love and detail I can into these memorial canoes. I hope that when people look at these pieces of art that they not only appreciate the effort that went into them, but realize how much love their loved one’s have to create a memorial like this. These are a celebration of a life well lived, and a creation of the things they loved.
I put an Eagle and an F15 fighter jet on the bows of the memorial canoe. I also included a Moose, a cabin by a lake in the spruce trees. I also put some Catfish at the bottom because of a family story involving a catfish. [I still need to hear that one.] I put a silhouette of him standing on a mountain. I also included a sailing ship as he loved ships. That was pretty easy as I love them too! I hope you enjoy the pictures and share in the memory of a loved and missed father.
